How to set up email hosting if i use namecheap for domain and dns. And heroku to run my app

I use fastmail for mail hosting and namecheap as dns provider. I tried to set up the mx address to point at fastmail, but it seems like it's not enough and that I need to configure my nameservers to point at fastmail instead of heroku.

What am I doing wrong?
